Shanghai as the biggest city which developed in the modern process of china has become cultural exchanges center between the East and the West. Its urban space and culture unprecedented impact on modern Chinese novel forms of external and internal values . More important, the transformation of Chinese novels in modern time also happened in Shanghai. If we discuss novelists and their works from a angle of urban cultural-novels, we could understand the process of transformation in greater extent. This is just the articles aimed at.The main body of this study includes three parts . Firstly, it begins with pectination of novelists' condition in late qing shanghai, including personal life,profession,status,birthplace etc. Then I will discus the combined effects upon novelists from Shanghai urban space and culture. Secondly, based on the discussion , an analysis on texts would be taken to describe the authors' thought state ,to describe their awkward situation(confusion,anxiety,hesitation and choice) from a transitional to a modern culture , to discover the process and meanings of transformation. Thirdly, I will enrich the content and my conclusions by several cases study. I will focus on three famous writers: Qichao Liang,Boyuan Li and Jianren Wu, to exhibit the difference of the mode of making a living, consumption, community and entertainment of them between in the modern business society and in traditional cultural environment.All of the analysis would be taken on the background of social thought and political , historical conditions in modern China .
