The thesis aims to demonstrate in what ways reciting can help Chinese college students improve their oral English.The research methodologies applied in this thesis are some experiments and a questionnaire.Students are asked to attend various tests to find out how reciting promote Chinese college students' oral English.The experiment proves that reciting can facilitate Chinese college students' oral English from many aspects.First,reciting can increase students' total vocabularies in a way that is facilitative to oral production.In other words,the experiments prove that the vocabularies learned through reciting are easier to be applied irrto oral speech than the traditionally learned ones.Second,reciting can help to develop students' language sense. The class instruction usually adds to students' explicit knowledge.In real speech production,it is the implicit knowledge that matters.Third,reciting can help to reduce Chingtish expressions.Chingtish expressions are quite common in Chinese English learners.It is suggestive that learners pay due attention to the correct expressions of the target language and purposely accumulate and imitate them in their own speech,which is similar to the process of children learning their mother tongue.Reciting the ready made language material is a good attempt in this respect.Apart from the above mentioned three contributive factors of reciting on orat English proficiency,it is also justified that reeiting can practice speech organs in a way that the learners can be ready to open their mouth and speak English in great easiness.As a result,students develop confidence in their oral speech.In one word,they are ready to speak physiologically, psychologically and materially.Therefore,with the ready made language materials, sensitive language awareness and great convenience in uttering,the students' overall oral English can be greatly improved.
