The Painter, The Painting Theory And Gardening Theory In Ancient China

With coming down in one continuous line, both of Chinese gardening theory and Chinese painting theory have the intercommunicating method and principle, in aspects of esthetic basis, creation rule, function request and so on. For thousand years, the gardeners have been taken natural scenery as blueprint, landscape painting as model, painting theory as guide.The poetry is time art and the drawing is spatial art, however, the garden is a synthesis art, which assemble building, poetry, calligraphy, drawing and carving to a whole. The creating process of Chinese classical garden contains rich poetry and painting flavor either the whole or the portion, namely so-called"poetic and artistic beauty".Many literators and painters of past dynasties had participated in gardening directly, which add the literator's thought, and painter's theory, style and method into garden creation. Due to their participation, the gardens have the higher humanistic doctrine and artistic conception, giving birth to "the literator garden". Elegant temperament, the moral sentiment even life philosophy of the literator and painter have been expressed through the gardening. All of these is similar to the spirit that the" literator painting"pursues; however, the gardening becomes the spatial art rising from the plane art.Through the research on the painting theory and the gardening theory, this article try to analyze the garden creation influenced by painting theory and the relation between them, in order to explore the painting flavor which the gardener pursues in the garden creation and provides some reference for the modern garden and landscape design.
