During the 19th century there are many great litterateurs and famous novelists in England. At that time, many women novelists emerged in and broke through the rule of the men in literature. One of the best and greatest novelist at that time is Jane Austen, who described the new image of women with the sharp writing style and sagacious language. This new image is so different from the angel pattern that women are tamable and sentiment in the usually men novel and embodies the strong female consciousness. First of all, the introduction briefly introduces some domestic research results. Then it explains the significance and value of the paper in terms of theory, learning and practical significance. At last, it makes a definition of the two key words: feminine consciousness and feminist. The first chapter makes a brief introduction of Jane Austen's life and works, and then analyses brand-new feminine consciousness in her novels. The paper is of the opinion that Jane Austen's feminine consciousness is reflected in equality of men and women and independence and her unique perspective of love and marriage. From a macro-controlled angle, the chapter shows achievement in Jane Austen's female consciousness, meanwhile, it also discusses the weakness of Jane Austen's female consciousness. The second chapter also makes a brief introduction of John Fowles's life and works. The paper then analyses the feminine consciousness of his representative work: The French Lieutenants Woman. Compared with women images in Jane Austen's novels, this chapter mainly discusses the improvement of feminine consciousness in Sara of John Fowles. The third chapter explains the awakening of British feminine consciousness in 19th century from the fields of politics and work Then the paper gives reasons of the awakening of British feminine consciousness from three levels. To deepen understanding of the awakening of British feminine consciousness in 19th century, the thesis then makes an analysis of weakness of the feminine consciousness. In the second part of this chapter, After giving illustration of the development of British feminine consciousness in 20th century from the fields of political and work, the second section explains the background of development of British feminine consciousness. In the final chapter there is a deep exploration of the rule of awakening and developing of Britain feminine consciousness in 19-20th century, from which the paper draws some enlightenment. The paper finally gives a prospect of the development of British feminine consciousness. After making an ultimate inquiry of the way out of the British feminine consciousness in development, the paper holds the view that the best way out for feminine consciousness is the twin quality harmony. The paper argues that we should advocate twin quality harmony between man and woman. That means we should propose the rights for both sexes living in harmony and the idea of the equality of characters under the admit of the prerequisite of gender difference. The feminine consciousness from the perspective of the twin quality harmony should not only show concern for women but also for men. Only in this way can we gain the higher and deeper equality between both sexes in the fields of culture. This should be the destination of the development of the feminine consciousness, which is not only limited to British Women but also can be used by other countries for reference.
