On the Origin of Court Banquet Music by Tingkan Ling who lived in Qing dynasty is a significant book about court banquet music of Tang dynasty. Since it has published, many researchers had given it diversity judgments when they discussed the 28-modes of court banquet music of Tang dynasty, but there hasn't presented a systematic, overall research about this book. Combining the study of posterity, my paper will comprehensively expound this book from both historical value and scientific value aspects, which bases on the major points in this book.My paper is constituted with introduction, conclusion and four chapters. In the introduction, I summarized the study of posterity about this book, and introduced my researching way and overall arrangement. The first chapter, the introduction of Tingkan Ling, his scholarship and the content of this book. The second chapter, I discussed the argumentation about the scales in this book, which were used in the 28-modes of court banquet music of Tang dynasty. The third chapter, I discussed "the theory of four principle tones and seven modes" in the 28-modes of court banquet music of Tang dynasty. The fourth chapter, I respectively analyzed the study of other questions beyond the 28-modes of court banquet music of Tang dynasty. In conclusion, I summarized the book from both historical value and scientific value aspects.
