| This paper discusses the influence of ideology in the translation of news reports from the perspective of critical discourse analysis (CDA).Previous studies of the translation of news reports mainly focus on general linguistic features of news reports. This paper probes into the influence of ideology, the non-linguistic factor in the translation of news reports by resorting to the approach of CDA.The author argues that ideology exerts significant influence on the operational process of the translation of news reports, including the stage of decoding and the stage of re-encoding of news report translation. In the stage of decoding, the translators' ideology, both political and cultural, may differ from or conflict with the hidden ideology in the source texts so as to affect the outcome of translation. In the stage of re-encoding, the intervention of power relations and readership also influence the translators in the production of translated texts.This thesis proposes that ideology also interferes with the selection of translation strategies, which are defined as the selection of source news texts and the choice of specific translation strategies. Ideological intervention in the selection of source news texts is analyzed with specific data. In terms of specific translation strategies, the author reveals the ideological manipulation in the use of specific methods, including rewriting, deletion and addition.In this study, the author finds that ideology penetrates into the whole process of news report translation and interferes with the selection of translation strategies. Based on the study, the author concludes that ideology is an essential factor that should be reckoned with in news translation and translators of news reports should be aware of the ideological manipulation of news report translation and make appropriate choices in face of ideological conflicts.
