The Research On Artistic Characteristic Of Nuo Mask In Nanfeng East Jiangxi

The thesis is based on the investigation of Nanfeng(a county in Jiangxi province) Nuo. By analyzing the topics and appearance of Nuo mask, the author tries to explore the origin of Nuo culture and the influence it gained.The history of Nuo in China can be traced back to Zhou dynasty. Nanfeng Nuo started in east Han dynasty and it was greatly affected by Nuo culture in Tang and Song dynasty. The major Gods of Nanfeng Nuo were established at that time.Under the influence of the Nuo's development and drama, Nuo had the first appearance of drama, and the Nuo mask added many characters originated form legend and folk story.In the modern times, the function of Nuo mask changed from a part of ceremony to pure handicraft.More and more people begin to pay attention to it and it is appreciated and collected by many people. But this kind of Nuo is different from those in ancient times and was influenced by many other factors. The isolated geographic condition which had once protected the Nuo is not existed and there is really some changes taken place in both spirit and appearance of Nuo.
