"Qu" ,which means "delightfulness" or "refined tastes", in the critical history of the Chinese painting. "Qu", an important umbrella term in the theory of Chinese painting, covers all the factors that can stimulate delightfulness and aesthetic while appreciating works of arts. Meanwhile, it is also the ideal state an artist pursuits and a vital artistic criterion by which critics hold dear. In the history of Chinese paining theory, it is a tradition that critics judges paintings by the standard of "Qu".Qi Baishi and Feng Zikai are two late well-known artists in the modern Chinese painting history. On the one hand, both of their works have plentiful "Qu", and it is just these plentiful "Qu" that captured millions of viewers' hearts. On the other hand, their works exists similarities and differences in terms of color, ink, conception, composition and shape. However, it is these similarities and differences in their works that give rise to the similarities and differences of "Qu" in their works.In light of this, the thesis aims to better understand the abundance and uniqueness of "Qu" in their works, to learn the change and development of the Chinese aesthetics, and to improve our level in painting and appreciating painting works. The paper falls into six parts:Part 1: Introduction. This part mainly introduces the recent development in this field of study and explains why it is worth studying this topic.Part 2: Brief Introduction to "Qu". This part mainly looks back the history of the"Qu" standard in Chinese painting and gives a brief introduction to the categories and definition of "Qus".Part 3: "Qu" in their works of art. This part sorts out all kinds of "Qu"in Qi Baishi's works of art with different subject matters and in Feng Zikai's works of art at different stages from the perspectives of ink, color, shape, conception, and composition with the purpose of showing the abundance of the"Qu" in their works.Part 4: The Similarities and Differences of "Qu" in their Works of Art. This part mainly compares and contrasts the "Qu" in their works from the above-mentioned perspectives with the purpose of finding out about the diverse expressing ways of "Qu".Part 5: Summery. This part mainly discusses the uniqueness of the "Qus" in their works and their heritages.Part 6: Conclusion.
