| This thesis is to study the swordsmen fiction written by Wangdu Lu in the period of the Republic of China. Wangdu Lu, together with Lishou Ming, Gongbai Yu, Zhengzheng Yin, and Zhuzhen Mu, was known as"five masters of northern school", who created a school called"Tragic Chivalry". His works were unique at that time and enlightened the new swordsmen fiction. Via a detailed textual analysis, this paper is to study Wang's serial fiction Crane-Iron from three aspects: Jiang Hu, Chivalry, and Tragedy.The introduction of the paper is to give a brief review of Wang's swordsmen ficion Crane-Iron and the relevant researches at past and present. Then the author's own viewpoints on the understanding of Jiang Hu, Chivalry and Tragedy are to be put forward. Chapter One introduces Wang's life and the influence on his swordsmen fiction. Chapter Two analyzes Jiang Hu of the fiction to expose that it is the real life portrait of the knigh errants at the late Qing Dynasty. Chapter Three begins with the study of preface and the analysis of chivalry, hermit swordsmen and confucian chivalry to illuminate the complexity of chivalry. Chapter Four, taking two novels Crane at Kun Lun and Sword gold hair pin as the cases, focuses on the emotion in the fiction and interprets the cause of the tragic emotion from female perspective. |
