Based on Philosophical Hermeneutics, the thesis attempts to explore the translator's creative treason in literary translation from the perspective of translator's subjectivity with a case study on Pound's Cathay. The subjectivity of the translator is attracting more and more attention of the theorists in the field of translation studies. The concept of creative treason pushes the study on the subjectivity of the translator to a new height. The thesis focuses on the concept of creative treason and gives interpretation of the concepts of treason, creativity and creative treason of the translator. Moreover, the author tries to discuss the objectivity of the existence of creative treason based on the theory of Philosophical Hermeneutics. It is argued that creative treason is the most significant manifestation of translator's subjectivity in literary translation. The essence of"creative treason"lies in"creative"in which"treason"is modified by"creative". Creative treason's deviation is not so-called mistranslation at random but creativity with limited and necessary treason. Creativity and treason closely associated with each other and compose a harmonious organic whole—creative treason. It is a way of the translator to reach the faithfulness at a higher level. The author takes Pound's Cathay as the case study. Firstly Pound's translation principles are discussed so as to make an objective and convincing analysis on it. Subsequently the author analyzes Pound's creative treason in Cathay from three aspects with convincing examples and explanations. Based on those analyses, the present paper offers an access to the recognition of the translator's creative and treasonous translation strategies and reevaluation of their translated texts. As a result, the outstanding translators and their splendid translation works can receive due and fair assessment. Besides, it can improve the translator's social status and promote the related study on the translator's subjectivity, especially the translator's creative treason, more broad-mindedly.
