The mosaic painting which originated from ancient Mesopotamia and developed in Pompeii and the Europe's Middle Ages brought human the first visual impulsion in the history with its shine material, composition of colors and mixed visual illusion. While this kind of material being utilized broadly in the mosaic paintings, the technology became a kind of plane technological language. Then we met a great development of mosaic art in many areas which include the subject, content, expressional method, art style, the influences and its diffusion, etc. During this period, the Mosaic has formed its unique creating product, technology, visual form and appreciating method.This article based on the research of mosaic painting further discusses the related visual forms, and studies on the phenomenon of which these related visual forms has presented in different appearances.The article has been divided in four parts. The first part goes to the summary of research which includes the research situation in and out of China, the subject and research method. The second part is an introduction of mosaic technology and the exact definition of mosaic. In the third part, the article has made an analysis of materiality and visual esthetic sense of mosaic, tried to study on the change of the use of mosaic in history. The last important part bases on visual senses of mosaic in different distances and the"reincarnation and distillation"of these visual senses during the development of visual art. The whole article starts form the vision, removes the technological element and makes an analysis on the visual and esthetic change which brought by the mosaic's use of material and visual form, and studies on the influences to the development of visual art as well.
