The new curriculum standard of China for secondary vocational schools is more demanding than ever and poses a new challenge to all English teachers. Finding a teaching approach which can fit English learning better and effectively improve students' language skills and communicative competence has become an urgent task confronting them. The traditional teacher-centered mode has negative influence on students' learning and it can not effectively strengthen their confidence in learning or in applying what is learned, and, it seems impossible to reach the teaching goal wholly through traditional mode.ITA, short for Interactive Teaching Approach, based on psychological linguistic theories and other educational theories, features its communicative capability. With flexible teaching modes, it can provide students with more opportunities to practice in oral class and enable them to be more active. It is student-centered instead of teacher-centered; meanwhile, there will be more sufficient T-S and S-S communication, which will meet students' need. The purpose of this thesis is to probe into the interaction between teachers and students, students and students in oral English class, to create a more interactive atmosphere and to effectively develop student's interest in oral English learning. Based on the analysis of interview, questionnaire and literary study, a half-year experiment has been conducted in oral English class. The result shows that ITA can effectively improve student's oral English competence. In this thesis, theories of children development, cognitive motivation and pragmatic research have strongly proved the previous hypothesis that ITA is an effective teaching approach in oral English class.
