The year of 2008 reaped one of its greatest archaeological excavations of Dagudui burials in Nehe along the Nen River Valley, whose burial potteries are strikingly featured by two characteristics. On the one hand, their modeling of edges of abdomen, folded abdomen, stands,bridge-shaped ears and style of painted stria of triangles, bands, hui characters, deer by stabbing or sealing, strongly represent numerous cultural elements of early Erkeqian Burials belonging to Baijinbao culture. On the other hand, the potteries were coated with colored drawings or red skin as well as of general features of Pingyang burials belonging to second-term Hanshu culture;meanwhile, some bronze jewelries were similar to those unearthed in Eastern Zhou burials in western Liaoning and northern Hebei mountains.Based on the material finishing as well as the type analysis of its burial pottery and the comparative research on the related burials, this paper studies the cultural nature, age, and its related problems of Dagudui burials, which is divided into seven parts. The introduction describes the object, origin and main purpose.Chapter one gives a brief introduction of the excavation of the burials such as the location of cemeteries, cause of excavation, unearthed relics, layout of tombs, burial customs and sacrificed animals.Chapter two deals with the taxonomic revision of burial objects.First,it is about the classified description and type analysis of potteries,in which burial potteries are classified into pot, jar, li,bowl, and cup,and each of categories is reclassified according to their obvious places in variation, for example, pots, according to their necks can be sorted into five classifications-A(straight neck),B (interior wry neck),C(exterior wry neck),D(short neck),E (long-strand neck). If they are difficult to assort, pots may also be reclassified by their variations of neck and abdomen.Second,it gives a sketch about burial objects such as bronze, stone and bone artifacts. Chapter three compares Dagudui burials with relevant burials and relates its cultural nature. The comparison of potteries in Dagudui burials with those of early Erkeqian burials of Baijinbao culture and of Pingyang burials of second-term Hanshu culture arrives at two conclusions.First, early Erkeqian burials and the like have far more differences than correlations with Dagudui burials. As for combination of artifacts and cultural features of "groups",the two burials belong to different cultural categories of archaeology but share obvious relations of inheritance for the latter absorbed numerous cultural elements from the former in the modeling and ornamentation.Second, despite the disparities, both burials, sharing more apparatus of the same shapes, represent consistent features of the times As for combination of artifacts and cultural features of "groups",they have more commonness than difference, belonging to the same archaeological culture, namely the second-term Hanshu culture.Chapter four studies their ages.Combined with some early elements of Baijinbao cultural burials,in which partial potteries were featured by edges of abdomen, folded abdomen,stands,bridge-shaped ears and style of painted stria of triangles, bands, hui characters, deer by stabbing or sealing and associated with comprehensive analysis of some same kinds of bronze jewelries used from late Spring and Autumn Period to early Warring States Period in western Liaoning and northern Hebei mountains, Dagudui burials were thought to belong to early burials of second-term Hanshu culture, dating back to late Spring and Autumn Period to early Warring States Period.Chapter five deals with related questions.Based on materials of Dagudui burials' excavation and previous research, chapter five studies two questions.First, the deeper research on Pingyang burial periodization and their ages.Second,it is about the discrimination of ages on Kuleqian and Erkeqian early burials. The two previous studies are virtually the re-understanding of periodization of Baijinbao cultural burials and second-term Hanshu cultural burials Chapter six sums up the major acquisition of the paper.
