A Research Of Lying Cognition With Event-Related-Potential Technology

In order to study how RT(Response Time) and AC(Accuracy) can differentiae the differences between lie and true by experiment method;to compare how picture,sentence and word result in the difference of behavioral and ERPs results which are activated by lie and true task;to exploer which part of cerebra takes part in the lying processing,and to supply experiment datas for explaining what is the lying processing.the present studies is within subjects design,fifteen undergraduate volunteers take part in our experiments and perform a series of Stroop-like task,then all the datas are computed by repeated measures ANOVAs in order to compare the behavioral and ERPs(event-related potentials) datas of lie with that of true between picture,sentence and word.The behavioral datas show that lie tasks produce significantly much longer RT than that of true tasks,but the AC is much lower significantly,then picture＜word＜sentence in the RT,sentence＜word＜picture in the AC.The ERPs datas show that lie and true EEG have the same curve traits,namely,they all contain one N100(which potential is about 100ms) and one P200(which potential is about 180ms) component;Late slow wave component produce one biggest negative wave-peak by 400ms,and keeping a more negative tendency in lie EEG.,then last to 1200ms later.Except for word material,the others all produce significant differences between lie task and true task,on p prefrontal cortex,anterior central convolution,parietalis cortex,parts of temporalis gyri.Further more,these differences in sentence material is later for 250ms than that in picture.According to above analysis about datas,we can come to as following conclusions:RT and AC is effective and reliable in differentiating which is a lie or a true,in addition,maybe picture is the best material for detecting deception;the processing of lie is the same as that of true on psychological processing,prefronal cortex,anterior central convolution, parietalis cortex,parts of temporalis gyri are all concerned with making a lie or true response,but lie response can waken much bigger cognitive conflict and working memory load;According to these behavioral and ERPs results,maybe picture is the most adaptive items for detecting deception.
