| Maofu in Heqing district of Yunnan province is one of the folk molding arts that have the most salient municipal features. Its unique art and aesthetic standard shown in the molding, decorative style and the humanistic spirit contained decide its diversification in role from a totem to tourist souvenirs and how sold like hot cakes.This phenomenon also reveals the rules and values that the folk molding art shown in the designing of Tourist Souvenirs.Adopting the survey procedure as we do in the study of folk culture and arts,this paper has made a research on Maofu in the most popular districts and the production bases of tourist souvenirs in Yunnan from June to August in 2007.It also concludes its artistic characteristics and national characters from the point of esthetics and folklore.Furthermore,it makes a case study on the reengineering of the development of the tourist souvenirs,comparing it to the traditional folk molding art.Taking its historical origin,manufacture craft,aesthetic characteristics,and cultural connotation into consideration, this paper sums up the features of Maofu in molding,decoration style,beliefs and national characters.It also shows the inner connection between folk molding art and designing of the modern tourist souvenirs after the market analysis of the latter.Last but not least,the paper presents the principles and innovative approaches in the modern designing of tourist products.The meaning of the study lies in that it reengineers Maofu, a popular and unique folk molding form,as one of the tourist souvenirs,to recognize its cultural continuity form and characteristics,to give a live example and guidance to its development in the present predicament of designing.Moreover, Combining these two,the study does not only protect the non-material cultural heritage but also continue the traditional culture,which has profound significance both in culture and practice in the situation of globalization and times of transformation in China.
