Abstract/Summary:
Jonathan Edwards is the great religious leaders, theologians, philosophical thinkers and educators in the history of the United States, he led the Great Awakening and fully demonstrated the myth and legend of "a tour pastor" in the 1740s. The goal of the Great Awakening is to solve the issue of the faint religious concepts and make the North American religious out of the reality plight to meet the objective environment and social needs. Edwards aroused people's religious fervor with the theological thought and religious practice in the Great Awakening, thus it had a profound impact on the development of the thought and cultural life in the whole of the North American colonies.The full text is divided into three parts: introduction, body, conclusion.The first part is the introduction. The part mainly introduces the research significance, status quo , content and innovations.The second part is the body which is divided into three areas: firstly, it discusses the cause of the great awakening which was led by Edwards. The part starts from the introduction of the personal circumstances of Edwards, such as family circumstances, educational level, intellectual level and the impact of Lockerbie's, Newton's, Calvinism's and other ideas. Then the part discusses the impact of the social ideas of the European rationalism and piety and the self-development of the internal factors in North America during the colonial era. Secondly, it discusses the theoretical guidance and practice of the great awakening. The part mainly introduces the theological thought, economic thought and how to promote their development. Thirdly, it discusses the impact and evaluation of the great awakening. The part recounts the impact of the great awakening on on the U.S. religious, social impact, as well as how to assess Edwards and the great awakening.The third part is the conclusion, it mainly focuses on Edwards and the great awakening for a summary to better understand the character features of Edwards.
