David Henry Huang is an active playwright in Chinese American Literary world and Broadway stage. He is the first Chinese American who was titled Tony Prize---the highest honor in American Playdom. Since the 1970's, David Henry Huang began to pay close attention to the real life situation of those Chinese American and produced a series works concentrated on this particular group. From Fresh off boat in 1978 to Golden Child and Trying to find Chinatown in 1996, David has found a unique way during the exploration of cultural identity. He did a lot of research on cultural identity from different aspects such like immigrants, gender and race. Besides that, he challenged the prejudice prevailed in American society and produced his masterpiece called M Butterfly in order to break the wall of misunderstanding between the East and the West. David is very good at combining the two different culture and formed his own way on how to orient the cultural identity which makes a big contribution to the present cultural situation.The first chapter mainly describes David Henry Huang's writing background and analyzes the constitutes of cultural identity . The second chapter shows the preliminary achievement David made during the exploration of Chinese American cultural identity. The third chapter describes the inner motivation of producing M Butterfly and the profound identity connotation delivered in M Butterfly. The fourth chapter mainly concentrates on David Henry Huang's innovation of cultural identity which reflects his free attitude towards this topic.
