In Zhang Dai's literary and artistic creation,although there is no specific aesthetics work,it does not mean that there is no aesthetic thinking of him.Zhang Dai,whose literary and artistic creation contains a wealth of aesthetic ideas,is a rare all-rounder in the Chinese cultural history of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and occupies a very important position in the history of Chinese literature.This thesis explores the aesthetic thinking embodied in his literary works by taking account of his living time,his life and thoughts.The whole thesis is composed of six chapters.The first chapter discourses upon the era of Zhang Dai,mainly,analysing the Ming and Qing Dynasties's social and historical reality and the ideology and culture of the period.The second chapter goes on with the life and thoughts of Zhang Dai.In this chapter,how Zhang Dai is affected by Wang Yangming's heart-and-mind aesthetics,Buddhist thought,the Gong'an school which holds individual freedom and subject publicizing is accounted.Moreover,because of the replacement of Ming Dynasty by Qing Dynasty,the sharp contrast of reality bring strong stimulation and shock to Zhang Dai.His proses are mainly produced during this period. So in these proses,his missing of the Ming Dynasty is reflected in his aesthetic tendency. From Chapter Three to Chapter Six,the aesthetic tendency is illustrated combining with his works.In Chapter Three,Zhang Dai's pursuing of vividness and freshness,which is mainly embodied in the description of scenery and scene and also in the way of changing the familiar to the unfamiliar,is discussed.Zhang Dai tends to express particular artistic feeling by describing common stuff,hence to achieve the artistic effect of Defamiliarization.In Chapter Four,the author proceeds with the intangible beauty which is embodied in landscape and gardens repectively.In Chapter Five,the author deals with the beauty of personality in his works,which is mainly discussed from the angle of his portrait of figures.This aesthetic tendency is the extension of the Zhang Dai's aesthetic taste in Ming Dynasty together with his pain of the country's collapsing.In Chapter Six, the author labors on the beauty of sad melody indicated by his works written in the early Qing Dynasty.Zhang Dai untangle his grief and indignation in the way of "writing for grievances".The last part,the significance of Zhang Dai's aesthetic thought is explored.
