Ralph Ellison is a famous American black writer.His two novels,Invisible Man and Juneteeth,portray kinds of images of the blacks.This paper will analyze the images of the blacks with psychoanalytic method, existentialism philosophy and aesthetic ideas,and will point out the change of the images in the two works.The paper mainly uses text analysis method with multi-angle to scan images of the blacks,combine with the writer's circumstance and the social conditions to analyze the cause of the images,and points out the aesthetical signification of the images of the blacks.This paper is divided into four chapters.The introduction simply introduces Ellison's life,his two novels,present study about him home and abroad,points out the research meaning of this paper,and elaborates related concepts and research methods. The first chapter analyses the text with psychoanalytic method,thinks that the blacks appear as neurosis sufferer,analyses the images of the blacks with three terms, "inferiority complex","basic anxiety",and "oppressed desire",and points out the change of images of the the blacks with neurosis;considers that the blacks use kinds of self-defense mechanism to protect themselves,analyzes the images of the blacks with three terms,"rationalization","denial" and "sublimation",and points out the change of blacks' self-defense mechanism in the two works.The second chapter analyses the text with existentialism philosophy,thinks the blacks have lost authentic being by "camouflage," "deception," "self-deception",analyses the change of blacks' being in the two works;considers the blacks rescue themselves by varieties of methods,analyses the images of the blacks with four terms,"self-being","self-making","resist absurdness","face death to live",and points out the change of the images of the blacks.The third chapter analyses the images of the blacks with aesthetics perspective, thinks the style of Invisible Man is funny,but Juneteeth is serious,analyses the sacred figures,absurd figures,anti-hero in the former work,elaborates the sublime colour of the noble heroe and the moral admonition colour of the negative character in the latter work, and reveals the deep implication of the funny or serious style and the change of the style. The fourth chapter digs the cause of the images of the blacks and their change from the writer's personal circumstance and social conditions.The conclusion summarizes all the content and points out the aesthetical significance of the images of the blacks in Ellison' two novels.In a word,the images of the blacks Ellison described are rich and varied,have already constituted system,show the deep level of their soul,have a wealth of psychology,philosophy connotation,and indicate the grand breakthrough of the shaping of the blacks.
