Research On Wudou's Family And Their Poetry In The Middle Tang Dynasty

Dou Shuxiang,the registry clerk in the reign of the Emperor Daizong代宗,took interest in the Chinese poetry.At the same time,his sons Dou Chang,Dou Mou,Dou Qun,Dou Xiang and Dou Gong were all famous for poem,named "Wudou".They were praised both by high and low ranks at that time.Dou Shuxiang had the contact with many celebrated litterateurs like Bao Ji,the Huangfu brothers,Li Jiayou etc.who were active mainly during the era of Dali大历,and the "Wudou" had good relationship with Han Yu,Yuan Zhen,Liu Yuxi,Li Yi,Wu Yuanheng,Wei Xiaqing and so on during the era of Zhenyuan贞元and Yuanhe元和,so that they got a good reputation in the intellectuals.In the era of dazhong大中(the reign title of Emperor Xuanzong宣宗) period,Chu Zangyan selected one hundred poems ofwudou,named doushi sets of beads,which had great value in family literature of Tang Dynasty.This paper includes three parts.The first part will on the basis of extant historical materials,poems written by Wudou and their contemporary poets,make a detail research from several aspects about Wudou'family,such as bloodline,migration, family education,family customs,and the activities with intellectuals.The second part introduce the doushi sets of beads,such as the version and academic values.The third part is research of Wudou's poems.First,I will discuss the common character of the literary works of dou family,then I take Dou Chang's huaigu poems,Dou Xiang's wupai and qiyangexing,Dou Gong's wulv,qijue and yuefu as cases,through their specific examples to investigate the characters of their poems.Finally,I will narrate Wudou and their poetry's status and influence in the history of literature.
