Historically Korea and China have been related in the process ofbuilding culuture and especially China's influence on Korea's culuturewas deep and broad. The evidence of this influence can be traced up toFormer Qin Dynasty, the Spring and Autumn and Warring states periods, WestHan Dynasty and Chinese characters and Chinese culture had been flown intoKorean peninsula until moderen times. Many dynasties in Korea learned andadmired Chinese law and system and for this reason many Chinese vocabularybecame important part of Korean language. According to a statistical data,Chinese vocabulary in Korean language occupies 60%-70%.In education of Chinese language to foreign students, teaching andlearning of vocabulary is one of the most important parts. Speaking ofChinese language learners, the correct understanding of vocabulary is akey factor that enables them to use Chinese effectively.Since Korea used to be influenced by Chinese Culture, most Koreanpeople are familiar with Chinese characters. However some Chinesecharacters used in Korea have different meaning compared to that in China. These Chinese Characters are"False Friends (Faux Amis)".Considering the meaning of"false friends"in Korean, Koreanstudents have a tendency to guess the meaning in Chinese and use thosewords improperly and eventually have difficulty in making a propercommunication in Chinese. For this reason this research, through a systemic comparison study on the Chinese vocabulary used in both Chinese and Korean, helps tounderstand the origin of"false friends"and its different meaning inChinese and Korean. And this enables Korean Chinese language learners tolearn Chinese effectively without having a negative influence from"false friends". In additions to it, this research will help Chineselanguage teachers who teach Korean students to be equipped with betterunderstanding of"false friends"so that they can prevent Koreanstudents from misusing"false friends".
