| Continence is an important conception in Aristotle′s ethics. Aristotle held that continence is a moderate disposition between the virtue and the vice,and it acts as a transition for man to reach the virtue. He studied the difference and puzzle between continence, incontinence and temperance in terms of his own moral philosophy, and treated continence and incontinence as a pair of middle character. He argued that they are indeed not the same as virtue and vice, but not fundamentally different. He solved the problem of continence and incontinence in analyzing knowledge, and emphasized he active relations between continence on the one hand, and human reason and the right logos on the other.
