The research object of this paper is the psychological romance of Hawthorne's works .The article attempts to analyze and research the artistic forms and the subject contents of Hawthorne's psychological romance, and then explore and summarize Hawthorne's views of human nature with a tint of divine. It concludes Hawthorne's unique thinking framework and artistic value as well. It exposes the difference of advance awareness and practical significance between Hawthorne and other writers. The whole text is constituted by the following three chapters.The first chapter is about the artistic form of the psychological romance, with focus on summarizing the forms and characteristics in Hawthorne's works. Section One illuminates the mood of Hawthorne's psychological depiction: Red and Black, and analyzes the two colors'symbols and connotations to prepare for the evil subject. The next section reveals the hero's psychology of loneliness by analyzing of the gloomy atmosphere of the Gothic style. The third section observes the author's inner contradictions by the display of double negative linguistic forms.The second chapter is about the subject content of the psychological romance. This chapter generally analyzes the three main themes: Evil, Loneliness and Quest. It offers the theoretical preparation in the search for the thinking source in the third chapter. Section One is the focus of this chapter. It explains Hawthorne's evil concept of the bad in human nature from two aspects, and reveals the deep-rooted impact on Hawthorne by Puritanism. Section Two, as the haunting loneliness, focuses on the main characters'sense of loneliness, under the influence of the evil's concept. The third section reflects the sense of harmonious and balance in the evil and loneliness, through exploring the main characters'expectations in behavior and mental.Chapter Three, which is the key points of this paper, is the root causes of his psychological romance creation. The first section mainly analyzes Hawthorne's the succession and criticism of Puritanism. Hawthorne consciously accepted the "Original Sin Say" , "Determinism" and other opinions from Puritanism. But the crisis of faith to Puritanism and the persecution had made him into contradictions. Section Two describes Hawthorne's critical acceptance towards Transcendentalism. The ideas of super-spiritual, self-help and the view of nature in Transcendentalism have had a resonance with him. At the same time, he also noticed the disadvantages of Transcendentalism, which established him a prudent attitude to consider human nature. Section Three focuses on Hawthorne's tint of divine on human nature. Hawthorne called simple human nature, on the other hand, he advocated the religious salvation to eliminate the evil of human nature, and then return the real. Although there are some drawbacks in his views of human nature, his ponder and comprehension towards human nature is definitely profound.Conclusion: Hawthorne combined the good with evil of human nature in the state of struggling contradictions. His views of human nature embodied the modernity and his works were in advance of the age in which he lived. Hawthorne is becoming increasingly popular.
