| Today an increasing number of Chinese companies are entering international market.Their business communications with outside world become more and more frequent.Company profile,like a business card,is important for Chinese companies to gain a competitive advantage and promote their image in the global market.Thus many of these companies have their company profiles translated into English. However,the quality of most of these translations leaves much to be desired.In these translations many problems still exist.Therefore,the translation of company profiles deserves much attention.The present research is intended to analyze the interpersonal meta-function of company profiles from the Hallidayan functional perspective.Although many researches have been carried out on translations of company profiles,systematic analysis of interpersonal meta-function of company profiles from the Hallidayan functional perspective is rare.Based on this theory,this article sets out to analyze the company profiles through mood,modality and other realizations of interpersonal meta-function.Then translation strategies are presented accordingly to help translators achieve interpersonal meta-function in the target text.This article reviews the previous studies on this issue and proposes theoretical framework on the basis of Hallidayan functional grammar.Qualitative methodology is adopted and data are collected from different channels to give a full picture of company profiles.Through above analysis and discussion,the author arrives at a conclusion that interpersonal meta-function is crucial for a successful translation of company profiles.A variety of lexico-grammatical resources have been employed skillfully to realize interpersonal meta-function in translations of company profiles. Translators should pay full attention to these resources to achieve interpersonal meta-function in company profiles translation. |
