As a giant among writers in 20th century, William Faulkner found the destination in the race subject ultimately. The great writer who thought the era profoundly always took the responsibility of a poet upon himself. He wanted to represent the truth of race poem even across the time and space. In the Yoknapatawpha's art world created by Faulkner, there were some black characters who took up the core position in his novels. These images that had abundant symbolic meaning jumped in the poetic language. The romance of Southern America came dispersedly from the image world, undertook heavy responsibilities of structuring black people's living space. This paper attempts to analyze the mixed-blood image Joe Christmas in Light in August. It was the first novel of Faulkner reflecting the race theme in 1932. The paper endeavors to analyze the race relationship of the Deep South from a new perspective, and investigates the race issues of Light in August. In the process of close reading, the novel was made into some images like a poem. The paper depends on the structure of images spreading in the novel, tries to create a whole clear logical frame to fill out thegap between literature text and historical text, and attempts to find the real poem andtruth in the texture of Light in August. In Chapterâ… , I attempt to seek the intrinsic reason on race issues by analyzingthe mental life of Joe Christmas. The psychological prospect was constituted by thedark house, the street and the jungle. One failure after another extinguished Joe's hopeto be a white person in the world of images. In Chapterâ…¡, I emphasize a statement to analyze Joe's image from the eye ofother people in town. It flows to a final conclusion on the true reason of a race tragedyexternally. The manners of gazing play a significant role in comprehending thetragedy of race.In Chapterâ…¢, I try to analyze the life structure of three kinds of people in thenovel. The conclusion presents the poetical meaning of race myth and shows the mostimportant reason why dealing with race issues was unsolvable.
