Photography shaped in the early 19th Century. Since then, continuous progress has been made in its technological aspect and now it becomes an indispensable part of our lives. Photography had brought about tremendous impacts on painting ever since its occurrence.The humanity had entered into visual culture era. The onflow of images constructs people's living environment, serving as the main medium of visual culture times. The development of image art, on the surface, forces painting which is the traditional artistic form to tend to be marginalization. However, in the light of the development of pictorial art, image art has not replaced the pictorial art, but it is the image art that positively liberates painting from formula, enabling painting to explore new sphere on linguistic technique, formal expression and concept bearing. Painting continues to show new vitality with it irreplaceable unique charm.In contemporary art of socialization and diversification, photographic painting becomes a new representative expression form of pictorial art. This is the alienation and recombination to traditional elements conducted by contemporary painting; the mutual reference of muti-culture and muti-dicipline together with the painting's visual expressive effect through image elements are the shift of contemporary painting resources, and are the extension of expression means of painting. Photographic painting enables painting, the visual text, to possess extensive connotation and denotation in a brand-new elaborating context, thus derives new meaning. At the same time it also shows that the contemporary art of painting possesses more inclusive, communicative, and interactive features.The thesis takes photographic painting as the research subject. The background of photographic painting and the relationship between painting and image will be explained theoretically. The thesis shows that the photographic painting is the utilization of contemporary painting toward image resources, with a view to achieve the conversion of the painting resources, thus is an extension of painting means.Under the developing of present culture and society background, it is of vital time significance to probe deeper into the contemporary major art schools. Meanwhile, it is of directive significance on the handling of individual creationand on definiteness of direction.By combining related theory and personal creation practice, and experimenting on narrative expression, the expression of space-related processing, and fuzzy picture processing with the expression of the subjective effects of the performance of imaging modalities, this thesis researches on the topic of photographic painting, with a view to serve for her own professional creation.
