China has the glorious traveling tradition. So far ,the kings'going on patrol, the government official's tour, the gentlemen's roam, the eminent monks'wandering and other colorful tourism activities have been manifested in the writings of Si ma Qian, Li Daoyuan, Li Bai, Xu Xiake et al. But actually very few people touched traveling abroad, just as the big traveller Xu Xiake in the Ming dynasty once frankly acknowledged that,the Chinese ancient travelers did not walk far enough, the majority of them were constrained by a corner. But he had not have sufficient time to travel abroad in the end,because the entrance to outsea was closed as a result of political reasons.China's history became a new period after The 1840 year's Opium War. The latter Qing dynasty was facing the unprecedented predicament, the special historic condition caused Chinese of insight to start to open eyes to look at the world, the modern tourism activity came into being and developed, it was studying abroad. Society's vicissitude made the traveling connected closely with saving the nation from subjugation and learning new knowledge. That was a closely opening time, because China moved toward the world, the world moved toward China ,too. It was the period of culture collision and exchange.Traveling abroad in latter Qing dynasty was emerged when China was degenerated into the semicolonial and semifeudal society, therefore it had distinct characteristics and profound social impact.This article mainly carries on the elaboration from the following several aspects of the traveling abroad in latter Qing dynasty: Firstly,the germination of traveling abroad in latter Qing dynasty; Secondly,the content of traveling abroad in Latter Qing dynasty; Thirdly,the characteristics of traveling abroad in latter Qing dynasty; Last, the social effect and influence of traveling abroad in latter Qing dynasty.
