Investigation On Usage Of Dialect Words Among High School Students In Changzhou

Changzhou dialect is generally used in Tai Lake place Changzhou area (or Piling area, which was the historical name for Changzhou). The main efforts of former researches on Changzhou Dialect were based on synchronic description and historical development. There were few researches focus on the changes of language itself resulted according to the language contact, even less researches focus on the students.Putonghua as the official language of China is in the absolutely leading position which greatly popularized and widely used. Changzhou dialect is also affected by it. The vocabulary as the most active component of language has been influenced in the process of Putonghua infiltrates into Changzhou dialect. Therefore, this article is based on vocabulary, from the aspect of the language contact in Changzhou dialect with high school students in urban area in Changzhou to discover the influence of mandarin on the development of high school students' usage of Changzhou dialect vocabulary.This article is made up of six parts. The first part introduces the geography, history, culture, and language usage of Changzhou briefly. Also includes the present research situation on Changzhou dialect as well as the research purpose, methods and meaning of this article. The second part gets first impression of the usage of dialect among high school students in Changzhou through the statistical analysis of questionnaire surveys and the interview results. The third part discusses the detailed usage of dialect words among high school students in Changzhou. The fourth part analyses and classifies all the influential factors which lend to the code-switching from the usage of high school students in Changzhou. The fifth part concludes the general situation of dialect usage of high school students in Changzhou based on the former analysis. The last part concludes the dialect usage of high school students in Changzhou and also points out the lack of this article.
