With its aspirating power for the Chinese both at home and abroad in the War of Resistance against the Japanese Invasion, crafty characterization, twisted plots, and aesthetic values, Moment in Peking by Lin Yutang is such a masterpiece that not only the original novel but also its Chinese translations have been studied from different aspects such as social, cultural, literary and etc. Moment in Peking covers a period from the Boxer Rebellion (1901) to the War of Resistance against the Japanese Invasion in the vast landscape of China, a wide range of real-to-life characters, together with their beliefs and lives. Unlike the previous translation researches on this novel, most of which deal with the cultural elements from both Moment in Peking and its Chinese translations, this thesis focuses on the use and treatment of point of view in the original novel and the translations, aiming at find possible translation strategies in novel translation.After a brief introduction about the research background, significance and methodology, the thesis gives a brief introduction of the point of view, which is the basic feature of novel and crucial to the transfer of the writer's intention and the beauty of the source text. It is proposed by the author four types of point of view in a novel, including the sensory point of view, the cognitive point of view, the chorological and spatial point of view, and the discourse point of view. In a novel, the first three types are usually adopted in the narration part by either a character or a narrator, while the last is for the conversations of characters. Through the analysis of the two Chinese translations of Moment in Peking, the author shows that the translator can keep and modify the original point of view or even create new ones in novel translation, as the translator is guided by respective translation purpose. The conclusion part puts forward three principles and four translation strategies for the treatment of point of view in novel translation. The first principle is to keep the point of view in the source text; the second is to ensure that the change of point of view is logical and possible in the real and text world; and the third is to transfer the writer's intention and to keep the wholeness of the character.
