With the diversification of contemporary printmaking Art, the researches in this field is, to some extent, "a hundred flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend. " How innovative the modern Chinese printmaking art can be, and how to control the category of this innovation, are two problems which can be solved only through the way of inheriting from the trdiational Chinese culture while borrowing ideas from western art culture. After being mature enough in techniques and skills, Chinese artists are trying to seek transcendency in a spiritual level and a different aesthetic method from the western one. In fact, what the Chinese spirit of art advocates is this sort of courage. This thesis, through the thinking of the connotation of the Chinese art spirit, illustrates the influnce of it on the creative work of contemporary Chinese printmaking art, as well as on the western printmaking art's reference from the Chinese one. Chinese art spirit not only broadens the boundary of the contemporary Chinese printmaking art, but also broadens the way of humanism in the realm of creativeness, making it to be more materialistic, at the same time having more spiritual factors and characteristics of the time, much deeper and much broader. Moreover, it brings the Chinese printmaking art with larger space for development and longer life.
