Since before the 20th century, art has been operating under the paradigm of the image, and we judge a thing is whether art or not, is to rely on intuition rather than theory. In 20th century, the trend of modern Western art posed a severe challenge to the traditional art theory. Duchamp put a very usual Urinal named " fountain", and send it to the Art Gallery as an art. First of all, I divided it into three stages to illustrate the formation and development of western art in 20th century.
