Taking the newly rising post-colonial criticism as the theory base, this thesis makes the analysis on Maxine Hong Kingston's three novels: China Men,The Woman Warrior and Tripmaster Monkey: His Fake Book respectively by the strategy of Orientalism,Postcolonial-feminism and Hommi Bhabha's hybridity and the theory of Third Space, and this thesis in order to explore the main clue and Chinese American's identity of Kingston's works.The thesis is composed of four parts:The first part is the introduction. It first makes a brief review of the development of Chinese Americans literature, and makes a survey of Maxine Hong Kingston's life and her works. Then makes a brief summary about the research on Maxine Hong Kingston among the academic circles both at home and abroad, look through the studies about Maxine Hong Kingston, expounds the research aim and research significance of this thesis.The second part firstly investigates the cultural background of Post-colonialism, especially to the Orientalism presented by Edward Said. Then interprets Maxine Hong Kingston's works by Orientalism, and points out that the contribution of Chinese American was ignored by the mainstream of American culture and American history, and Chinese Americans suffered prejudice and marginalized.The third part investigates the cultural background of the Postcolonial feminism, and makes a study on how Maxine Hong Kingston rewrite Chinese stories, recreate the characters in the myths and stories and what the differences represent by the perspective of post-colonial criticism. Furthermore, analyses the female characters in Maxine Hong Kingston's works and how they break through the interwoven suppressions of race, gender and class and regain their subjectivity and rights of voicing, through literature.The forth part firstly introduce Homi Bhabha's theory including Third Space and hybridity, then analyses theme,characters and other aspects of Maxine Hong Kingston's works by applying Homi Bhabha's Third Space and hybridity theory. Finally makes a conclusion that Maxine Hong Kingston hope to build a cultural hybrid and a harmony peaceful world without racial,culture and sex discrimination.
