All the scholars, both at home and abroad, rarely studied speech roles from the perspective of "power". In the present study, "power" is also perceived as a key factor which influences speech roles. Thus, based on speech role relationship, the speech roles in a vertical conversation (namely, a power conversation) are classified into two types: the superior speech role and the inferior speech role. The superior speech role is the studying object of the thesis. The present study is based on three theories: power and solidarity theory, politeness theory and turn-taking theory. The study of the superior speech role is composed of two parts: the power resources and the pragmatic analysis. The power resource analysis is to illustrate the origin of the superior speech role while the pragmatic analysis is to reveal the pragmatic features of the superior speech role, which are the external expressing forms of the superior speech role. And finally, the superior speech role analysis' implications for the teacher's talk are also discussed. The goal of the present study is to make the communicators realize the influence of power on speech roles and give them a relatively comprehensive and deep understanding of the superior speech role. In this way, correct speech role sense will be established and the success of interpersonal communication will be promoted.
