Painting is like consolidation of space, while music is like the flow of time. However, painting and music to some extent can also be comprehended similarly. Through a close analysis of the background of modern paintings and music creation and the interaction between contemporary painters and musicians, we can find the close relationship between these two kinds of art forms. This article tries to use Beardsley's decorative lines in his black and white paintings as the penetration point to discuss in details about the rhythm in its music like flow and strong sense of tempo with its abundant variation of thickness of lines. In his paintings, he always emphasizes the arrangement of black and white lines and tempo formed by those lines to form a visual music art form. About his expression of musical and painting language, this article analyzes and compares the musical quality, tempo and rhythm of Beardsley's black and white paintings. Through this comparison, we look into the contemporary art education methods with depth. In conclusion, the paintings and music are close related. In essence, they can penetrate each other. If we can use musical methods to enhance the tempo and rhythm of the paintings, then the paintings can provide us a new experience of art by exceeding the usual two dimensional art form. We should combine the musical and painting education together. By enhancing the students' capability to interchange between music and painting, we can improve their art expression to higher level.
