The study aims to locate the correlation among student' s learning motivation, time invested in reading hours and academic achievement represented by students' TEM-4 scores through an investigation in the form of a questionnaire. It is hoped that the present study will provide some available suggestions for English language learners as well as teachers in universities.A questionnaire, consists of English learning motivation, time investment in reading aloud and some personal information, is distributed to 173 English major students. The 173 subjects of both genders are second-year students from Commerce Department, School of English Studies, Tianjin Foreign Studies University. Every second-year student in the Commerce Department takes part in the survey. Data are analyzed with SPSS 13.0 to find the correlation among the motivation, time invested in reading aloud and academic achievement represented by TEM-4 scores. The results show that there is a slight correlation at the significant level between motivation total and time investment in reading aloud; there is also a slight correlation at the significant level between time investment in reading aloud and TEM-4 scores. However, no significant difference is located between motivation and TEM-4.This survey could be important evidence to some studies in education field in order to arouse students' motivation and interest in English learning. For teachers, there are some ways to develop teaching methods, and for students, they would find out ways to study by being aware of not only their motivation but also skillful ability of learning. It is hoped that, at present, educators will carry out measures to help the students find an appropriate way which fits students well in their English learning.
