Li Shangyin, one of the most important writers at the late part of the Tang Dynasty, both his poetry and Pianwen have made great achievements and produced prodigious influence in the history of literature. Especially, his Pianwen was very unique in the late part of the Tang Dynasty; it came from the Six Dynasties and turned on the Pianwen of Song Dynasty, which occupied a very important position in the history of Pianwen. But a long time, the study on his Pianwen is not as fruitful as his poetry, it needs a further discussions. This paper is based on the existing Pianwen works of Li Shangyin, using the contrast and inductive method; it wants to analyze the sameness and the difference between his poetry and Pianwen, and then find the reasons why the sameness and the difference coexist. The introduction mainly expounds the origins to choose the topic, and the results have been comments. The first part of the text induces the sameness between Li Shangyin's poetry and Pianwen to three aspects: firstly, both his poetry and Pianwen are highly stable, the content is divided two parts, namely neat antithesis and best use of empty words; secondly, both his poetry and Pianwen use allusions accurately, this point has three parts as using allusions frequently and naturally, using allusions freely and oppositely, using allusions coupled with narration, lyricism and arguments; thirdly, most of Li Shangyin's poetry and Pianwen express his emotion movingly, both his elegiac address and poetry are soulful as well as endless, that make peoples moving. The second part reduces the differences between Li Shangyin's poetry and Pianwen to two aspects: the poetry has neat antithesis, while the Pianwen has both parallel sentences and prosaic sentences; at the same time the poetry are implicative and tactful, they pin his emotions on things ,history or love; but the Pianwen are natural, popular and easy to understand. The third part of the text analyzes the reasons why the sameness and difference go together in his poetry and Pianwen, then discuss the reasons from the developments of style and the writer's views of literature. The reason why the sameness comes out is connect with the inherent compatibility of styles and also with the author's own views that oppose archaism and express one's real emotions. While the reasons that the difference exist is because the otherness between poetry and Pianwen styles thus they have different features and different writing demands; the author's own experiences and the life writing article for others in Mufu also made his poetry implicative and tactful but the Pianwen natural and simple. Li Shangyin is so good at the two styles that he can form his own style and make the poetry and the Pianwen both conform the writing habits, then he can take his own position in late part of the Tang Dynasty and admired by the later generations.
