Nowadays English teaching meets with great difficulty in vocational schools. There are many problems associated with learning, teaching material and methodology. What should English teachers do to change the situation and promote English teaching in vocational schools? This paper discusses the possible measures to be taken to meet the psychological needs of students.Based on Krashen's affective filter hypothesis, this research on psychological problems of students'English study were conducted through investigations and interviews, in order to discover students'interests, motivation, confidence, awareness of classroom activities and obstacles to language acquisition.Krashen's input hypothesis, Swain's output hypothesis, constructivism and affective teaching theory were put into practice in teaching with reference to the result of the investigation and the study of interviews. Some strategies were discussed to handle teaching materials, to create suitable learning and teaching atmosphere and to apply various methodologies. Multiple assessments were also suggested so as to improve teaching and encourage an overall development of the students.These strategies were found helpful to promote students'cognitive and affective learning and to improve English teaching.
