Watercolor painting has not long history in China, but develops very fast. In the past hundreds of years, Chinese watercolor, which has the same position as oil painting, has grown to be an independent paining with the characteristic of ontology in the prosperous arts of China.It is a kind of painting worth of attention or being concerned. In the global world, Chinese modern water color, the combination of Chinese and western cultures, develops with diversification, but at the same time also faces perplexity, challenges and opportunities.Regarding to the weak, incomplete theoretical basis of Chinese watercolor, which is lack of relevant critical context, the author, a graduate of watercolor, considered the problem of the current situation of Chinese watercolor, spiritual loss, and audaciously proposed his own opinion: we should recognize the property of Chinese watercolor, the combination characteristic of Chinese and western cultures. Only following the origin will not lost the self. In the early stage, Chinese watercolor only learned the style and material language superficially from Chinese painting art. The era requires Chinese watercolor to improve its quality, combining Chinese traditional paintings interest and charm with the lofty aesthetic spirit, which reflects yearning and pursuit to the spiritual freedom by Chinese people, Chinese thinking about the springing life and living wisdom, and the properties and spirit of Chinese culture.In the global modern movement centered of western modern culture, it is still irreplaceable for us to investigate Chinese painting feelings and philosophical wisdom of Chinese watercolor, which could make up for perplexity and restless brought to modern people by modernism, to achieve the situation of living in the nature, following the required mentality to face the conflict in the society. In China of 21st century, it is limited to imitate the style of other paining group and art, while art creation is unlimited. In the background of Chinese philosophy, we should consider the harmony between human and the universe and posses the soul art back to the nature.
