| As one of special organizations of United Nations, IMO's main responsibility is making measures to improve the safety and security of international shipping and preventing marine pollution from ships. IMO is composed of Assembly and Council Committee. All of the technical work is carried out by the following 5 committees: Maritime Safety Committee (MSC), Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), Facilitation Committee, Technical Co-operation and Legal Committee. Among them the highest Body of the Organization is the Assembly. The resolution made by Assembly is the foundation of the formation of Maritime Convention, that is, Maritime Convention is based on the Assembly Resolution.The Resolution is a kind of formal document, whose lexicons could reflect its status in the maritime field. Based on the theories of legal linguistics, lexicology and statistics, this study analyzes the lexical features of IMO Assembly Resolution with the facility of computer software and program. As a part of applied linguistics, legal linguistics has been researched by a lot of experts at home and abroad, such as Mellinkoff, Trosborg, Weihofen, Chen Zhongcheng, Pan Qingyun, ect., who all proposed their own opinions. Among them, there were some experts, based on the statistics, simply discussed the word length, mean sentence length, syntax of legal documents, ect., but did not research a certain depth. How does the adoption of these lexicons reflect the stylistic features of certain subject? In the process of comparing with BNC Corpus, this thesis concludes some major lexical features, i.e. precision and explicit, formality and dignified, impersonality and objectivity, and logicality. This thesis also discusses how the above features meet the requirement of the stylistic of legal document. In this paper, it proves some lexical features are shared by legal English and some special one only belongs to IMO Assembly Resolution.
