Hui nationality is one of the ten Minorities believing in Islam in China. For Hui nationality, Islam is not only a kind of religious system, but also a way of life. Belief is the core of religion, which regulates all their behaviors in their religious life and mundane life, and determines the religious rituals and the customs. In the scattered region, the consciousness of Islam of Hui nationality becomes less and less. Lianyungang is a typical region of Hui nationality living in Han dominated areas. Based on Anthropological field work, this paper tries to investigate the present situation of Hui nationality's spiritual life in Lianyungang, and finds that their beliefs are characterized with diversification. It is also found that, though the local Hui believe in not only Islam but also some other forms of beliefs, which to some extend impacts their ethnic identity and their inheritance of Islam culture, Islam culture still dominates their daily life.The paper is comprised of five parts. Part One is preface, which introduces the basic problems, significance, research methods and literature review. Part Two summarizes general situation of Hui nationality in Lianyungang. Part Three deeply analyzes the overview of Islam faith, and through the mosque studied the consciousness of beliefs, the ritual, and the customs of the local Hui nationality. Part Forth explores the situations of Christianity, Buddhism and folk beliefs performed by the local Hui. Part Five analyzes on the reasons that results in the belief aberrance of the Hui living in Han dominated areas like Lianyungang city, and the impacts on their daily life.
