the properties and characteristics of monosyllabic postpositions in Xianyujing are researched and described,by the perspectives of semantics and syntax, in the paper. And after comparing with Zuozhuan and Shishuo Xinyu, the historical stage of the monosyllabic postpositions in Xianyujing is clearly defined. We can find that there are some new monosyllabic postpositions in Xianyujing. For example, "di(底)","duan(端)","zuo(左)","you(右)","dong(东)","nan(南)","xi (西)"and "bei(北)"etc; some distinct combinations, "shanjian(山间)","guangtou(光头)","maotou(毛头)"etc; the special verb-object combination as "verb-auxiliary words-substantive-postposition". Comparing with Zuozhuan, more the postposition phrases without preposition which being as complement and adverbial in the syntax, are used and most the combination of postposition phrase with prepositions are also used as complement and adverbial in Xianyujing. In the Middle Ages, "zai(在)"had been widely used as preposition in adverbial positon. Compared to Shishuo xinyu, the linguistic phenomenons in Xianyujing more clearly reflects the trend of monosyllabic postpositions, which testifies the important value of the Buddhist corpus.
