Study On Illustration Design Of The Infant Picture Books

With the recognition of the graded reading between children of sperate age in our modern age, the family and kindergarden have paied much more attention to the early reading of the infant aged from 0-3 stage. Infant picture books shall be treated as the most important book for infant of this age period. Well designed infant picture books can culture the imagination ability of the infant, and promote a good communication between infants and their parent. However,most picture books for infant have paied little attention to infant`s mental and reading characteristics. For examaple, Infant picture book is always treated as a classification of children`s book. From a design point of view, most picture books are not suitable for the infant. Some books are full of strong color and are not designed innovativly. It is very urgent to pursue a study on the design of illustration of infant picture books.I have looked up as many picture books for infant as possible, therefore, I will do my best to draw a sollution of the problems bothering the picture designers of infant books in this dissertation with an eye to the importance of the infant`s early reading. First, I will illuminate the psychological characterics of the infant and the picture books,and then on integrity and safety of these books. Second,I will expound the species and genres of illustration of infant books by three age group. Thirdly, I will discuess the key issues for the illustration design of infant picture books seperatelly. This may be the most important chapter of my disseratation. There are four parts of this chapter: the color,the pattern,the framing and creativity. I will discuess conceratly on the association theory and apply of the color ,the concerate and abstract pattern as well as the method of the framing and creation in practice. Finally I will draw a conclution on the future situation of the illustration design of the infant picture book . I argue that we shall pay more attention to the infant psychological as well as reading characterics while we design for the infant.This dissertation is based on market survey ,my own parent-infant reading practice and my stduying early period echievements. I do hope this research will be very helpful for the illustration design of the infant picture books in the long run.
