Monika Motsch is an outstanding German sinologist. She is preeminent in the field of Chinese Literature research and translation. She have published many works in this research area. She is noted for her translating the work Wei Cheng of Qian Zhongshu and researching the work Guanzhuibian of Qian Zhongshu. She also translate the work Womensa of Yang Jiang. She also take part in the research of Chinese literature-the works Geschichte der chinesischen Literatur-that the chief editor was Wolfgang Kubinsuch. And she was in charge of the part of Chinese ancient middle and short novel and named the book in German as Die chinesische Erzahlung:Vom Altertum bis zur Neuzeit.This Paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter analysesthe concept Erzahlung and compare the two concepts novel and narrative, tries to find the reasonable fact in Monika Motsch's research. The second chapter is focused on the research of the characteristic points and versions of each dynasty,and try to find the developing situation. Monika Motsch found that the Chinese ancient narrative works has nearly embraced every motif of literature and arts from theview of comparative thematology. The third chapter just introducts her research results on the thematology. And the last chapter sums up the characteristic and feature of her study.This paper is based on the works of Monika Motsch and refers to other specialists' research results. Her reasonable new research is a breakthrough and innovation of study method in our ancient Chinese literature area.
