From a revolutionary party to the ruling party, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has always adopted political mobilization as an important way of political leadership. "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement is a successful practice, during which CPC compares of the old society and present one, making use of the legitimate resources of the old society and legitimate resources of the new China, and a combination of a variety of mobilization means, in order to raise people's hatred for the former society and love for the new China, enhance their identification with the new proletarian class, strength their support for the Communist Party and consolidate the party's ruling position.Combining historical events with theories of mobilization, the paper carries out a comprehensive research and analysis of the political mobilization mode of "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement between 1963 and 1966. With historical, theoretical and documental analysis, and a basis on the background, fundamental elements, characteristics, effect and limits of the movement, the paper focuses on restoring the historical scene of the "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement.The research significance of the paper can be expressed as follows. On one hand, with an analysis of a large number of historical data, it can restore the historical truth of "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement of the 1960s; on the other hand, with an analysis of the fundamental elements, characteristic and effect of mobilization, the paper can probe the characteristic of the CPC's political mobilization in a specific period of time, thus providing useful enlightenment for the contemporary CPC political mobilization.The paper is divided into five parts:The first part serves as an introduction, which carries out elaboration and demonstration of the research significance, status quo of researches in and abroad, research methods and relating concepts (political mobilization and "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness").The second part focuses on the background and development of the "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement between 1963 and 1966. Rather than a happenchance, the movement is a destined outcome of the domestic and international circumstances in front of CPC at that time.The third part analyzes the fundamental elements of the movement, including subjects and objects, new and old resources and skills. Launched by CPC and with people's widely participation, the "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement can be regarded as a political mobilization which makes effective use of both the legitimate resources of the old society and the legitimate resources of the new China, through such mobilization skills as political education, publicity, mass movement and typical models.The forth part describes the characteristic, effects and limits of the movement. As a representative political mobilization, the "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement presents several characteristics, including subject authoritization, mechanism interactiveness, mode procedurization, and form diversification, etc. The movement has both positive and negative effects, and time and performance limits in its process, to some degree, have influence on the realization of its positive effects.The fifth part is an epilogue. It offers a certain contemplation over CPC's political mobilization, on the basis of the studies on the "Contrasting the past bitterness with the present happiness" Movement in the previous four parts.
