Luzhou, Sichuan watershed Oilpaper umbrella as China's second batch of intangible cultural heritage included names, is called as another magnificent wonderful work of traditional folk art on the land of Ba and Shu, also becomes an important part of the booming growth of Chinese folk art. For various reasons, up to date the study of watershed Oilpaper umbrella is relatively weak, has not yet formed a more complete theoretical system, or fully and deeply revealing its rich cultural connotation and aesthetic qualities. This paper through several field surveys and the integrated use of multi-disciplinary theories and methods, access to a large number of relevant literature books and physical objects, will apply the rational ingredients of art history in semiotics, art style, folklore and anthropology and other methods into the study of watershed Oilpaper umbrella and divide the whole paper framework into five aspects. Aim at the origins of art, the uniqueness of traditional crafts, artistic style, cultural connotation and aesthetic value of the watershed Youzhi umbrella in Luzhou ,Sichuan, we make more in-depth discussion and argument and from this way we make more in-depth analysis and demonstration on the feasibility of this traditional folk craft in the transformation process of modern design, and provide historical facts and theoretical evidence to the deep protection of traditional fold crafts and the extension of the vitality in modern design.In this paper, the core we study is the unique traditional craft of watershed Oilpaper umbrella as a carrier, combining arts, cultural connotation and aesthetic value analysis, argumentation the feasibility on the transformation of watershed Oilpaper umbrella to the modern design and try to propose specific options. This paper links the physical image shape of watershed Oilpaper umbrella and its artistic content to avoid a purely formalistic analysis or description of a pure culture of centrism. Through combining the occurrence of its origins, local culture, cultural content, artistic style, aesthetic values and transformation of modern design with each other, we attempt to protect the traditional arts and crafts with their vitality extension and find a vertical and horizontal interoperability development path.
