Translation variation has long been widely used in the translation, such as in the interpretation of advertising, the compilation in newspapers, the translation and writing of literature and so on. But as a kind of translation theory it is still challenged by the translation circles, and has not been widely recognized by translation theorists. Translation variation theory expanded the scope of translation theory, enriched and created a new theoretical form of translation studies aiming to provide a complete theoretical frame and basis for various translation variations that already existed. It expanded the boundaries of translation, and provided space for the future variable translation variation methods. At present, the theory is still new, and subject to further confirmation and development.English translation of classical Chinese poetry has made remarkable achievements over the past few decades, however, there are still problems and shortcomings in traditional Chinese poetry translation Studies. Traditional theory attached too much emphasis on the faithful and poetic beauty of original poetry, and neglected something such as: diversity of faithfulness, the main role of the translator and the reader's acceptance, etc. Therefore, it will inevitably lead to one-sidedness and limitations of poetry translation. This paper will analyze the concrete translation variations that already existed in classical Chinese poetry translation to elaborate the rationality and necessity of the existence of translation variation theory. During the process of classical Chinese poetry translation, translation variation theory played an important role in terms of creative faithfulness, target-oriented translation and translator's subjectivity. The theory facilitated the spread and development of classical Chinese poetry in western countries. At the end of this thesis, mentioning a number of shortcomings of the theory in order that it can be more complete and play a more significant role in classical Chinese poetry translation in the future.
