As the transformation of human art from the classic to the modern form, painting materials status is more and more important. And it potentially affects painters'esthetic modeling, artistic consciousness and artistic language. In the development of Chinese freehand figure painting, painting material as an important factor for the painting itself also has a very important impact. The collapse of the old order means the building of a new order. stylization performance of Chinese painting early has become a complete "rules" and "symbol". We inherit and promote the traditional Chinese painting material, and we also should actively explore new painting materials. These symbols are broken or reassembled, which will release the new energy and generate new order. It will maintain unique feature of Chinese painting freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese painting, and make it emit the unique artistic charm. Therefore, the study and pursuit of material language should be endless.The development history of painting materials represents the history of Chinese painting. Each kind of material has its own rhythm patterns. Only the recognition and understanding of the materials characteristics can properly use materials to achieve the ideal effect. To develop Chinese freehand figure painting, we must not only study our present relevant painting materials language, but also study those of other countries all over the world in the traditional outstanding painting materials language. The new material's using will trigger new painting skills and techniques, and will bring brand-new visual language. Painting and material are interacting which are mutually complementary, indispensable. Therefore, from the perspective of materials language, research of Chinese freehand figure painting is of important theoretical and practical significance.Based on the development and change of the materials for the main line, the paper from two aspects explores contemporary China freehand figure painting language materials. The first chapter basically expounded with the relationship between materials language and Chinese freehand figure painting. The second chapter is the key, including material research in the concept of language, the re-recognition on traditional materials, materials language development and rich on the contemporary Chinese painting freehand brushwork. And the part representative contemporary artist as an example, this paper analyzes how to use the materials in contemporary painting freehand brushwork. The third chapter discusses the current development of using materials language and thinking. And the future is presented.Therefore, the traditional Chinese painting freehand brushwork in learning and development needs to inherit and develop the ancient excellent cultural heritage. At the same time, more courage to explore and understand the tool material properties, learn to navigate their rules and skills. We should actively explore new painting materials, and form our own unique style. Materials, painting manner and creative thought are fused fully. Chinese freehand figure painting spirit connotation and rich cultural heritage are expressed with diversification. We should contribute our strength for contemporary Chinese freehand figure painting's diversified development.
