This paper is a study of Prokofiev's No.7 Piano Sonata (Op.83), focusing on the felicitous integration of "tradition" and "innovation" in the sonata, and is intended to serve as reference for performers of the opus. The paper begins with an introduction that explains the significance of the theme and the purpose it serves, and provides an overview of the distinctive features of the sonata. The main body of the paper consists of two parts:1. The integration of "tradition" and "innovation."This part focuses on evidences of the co-existence of "tradition" and "unique innovation" in the structure of the musical form, the moods of the movements, the tonality arrangements, and the selection of source material.2. "Tradition-cum-innovation" as reflected in the process of "Re-creation."This part analyzes the speeds, the touch of the keys, and the application of the pedals, and proposes recommendations for performers of the work, so that the composer's "tradition-cum-innovation" approach can be brought into greater play in the process of "re-creation."Attached to the paper is a list of reference books and audio material.
