Brahms is one of the greatest romantic composers in 19th century, who has created various kinds of music works, especially Lied. During his composing life which lasts for more than 40 years, he has composed over 200 Lieds. In this thesis, Romanzen Aus Magelone which is one of Brahms only two song cycles is chosen. This song cycle is written according to Tieck's poetry Die Schone Magelone aud Provence count Peter and only select 15 poems from the total 17 ones. The writer states Tieck's poetry's background and narrative text and Brahms composing background and cause from a macroscopic view; meanwhile expounds the poems, music structure, the relationship between voice and accompaniment, the song cycle's preludes and postludes and artistic characteristics and so on from amicrocosmic view. The writer tries to find out the spiritual implications of this work and Brahms' music style during his transition from early period to metaphase so that the song cycle can be better interpreted and played.
