Nowadays, film, television and the network begin to the new media in the modern society and gradually become a leading actor of our times. The cultural researchers do not rigidly adhere to the perspective of literary studies and they begin to pay attention to this new field. However, compared with the speed of TV and film's development, the depth and extent of study on them is far from enough. Therefore, it is necessary to be more concerned for TV programs and films.The close relation between Christian culture and Western traditional culture has fully proved the long-lasting, extensive and deep influence of Christianity on Western world in two thousand years. So when the "element" of Christianity is implanted into the films which are different from the traditional ones, religious films, a unique film category, can gain more reputation with the expand of films with religious themes. Those Western scholars of religious films not only study the biblical characters such as Jesus, but also in love with research the ideological and artistic expression. However, in our country, there is no such study because of cultural differences. And I hope I can present some new ideas for the research into this area.Religious film in the west is a special film category. The first part of this thesis is to define "religious film" on the basis of the religious feature of a film subject. Through the analysis of examples, religious films will be classified according to their religious content. The modern popular Western culture must be examined by Christian cultural so that in the second part, the impact of Christian culture on various Western artistic fields will be demonstrated. The infiltration of religion and art in modern society has become more frequent and diverse, and the film, which serves as a "Moving Plastic Arts", also becomes a new medium for spreading religion. In the 21st century, the Western religious films showed an extremely active development tendency, which has attracted wide attention both in the film circle and the religious circle. Thus, the third part of this article will study the Western religion films of the 21st century and will discuss the basic features of their development in recent years. And the article will focus on the critical and artistic features of the religion films, emphasize the diversity of gospel films and the consciousness of women-worship that is rare in the film history, and try to make a detailed analysis of the characteristics and development trend of recent religious films.
